This is it. The famous line. “You are not your thoughts”.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before. I’m sure you’ve heard it parroted by so many ‘spiritual teachers’.

But what the fuck does it actually MEAN?! How can you USE it? How can you LEARN from it? What practical use does it provide?

…..

You are thinking. These are all thoughts from the mind. Trying to figure it out. Trying to make sense of it all. Always going on and on and on.

Those thoughts that you’re having. Those are not you.

Yes, even the ones you’re having right now. They are not you. Even the ones you think you are producing. Those are not you.

How could they be you?

If they were ‘you’, how could you observe them? Anything you observe automatically cannot be you.

If they were you, why don’t you make them shut the fuck up? Why don’t you make yourself think less? Why don’t you have more positive thoughts?

Because they’re not you.

It really is that simple.

You don’t have to go all ‘higher consciousness’ on this one.

All you need to know is that the thoughts that you have in your head, are simply not you.

You just BELIEVE they are you, because that’s what we’re taught.

Imagine, as a kid, if somebody had told you:

“By the way, you know those thoughts you hear in your head? Don’t worry about them, they’re not you. We all have them. Just observe and ignore them”

You would have no suffering. You would have no anxiety. You would have no rumination about a ‘better’ past.

Because you wouldn’t believe the nonsense that is going on in your mind.

Detach from your thoughts if you ever want peace.

You are NOT your thoughts.
